ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEMS ANALYSIS (EG7042_1)

Main topics of study:

  1. Revision of Electrical Networks - phasors, complex power in AC circuits, network equations, balanced three-phase circuits.
  2. Transmission Lines Parameters and Calculations – resistance, inductance and capacitance of transmission lines, short, medium-length and long transmission lines, the transmission line as a two port network, power flow on a transmission line.
  3. Power System Studies - source transformations, bus admittance and bus impedance matrices, power flow equations, iterative procedures, Gauss and Gauss-Siedel methods, the Newton-Raphson method.
  4. Fault Calculations – types of faults, symmetrical faults, unsymmetrical faults and symmetrical components, sequence power, impedances and networks.
  5. Stability of Power Systems: inertia constant and swing equations, equal-area criterion, critical clearing angle, multi-machine system.
  6. Power System Protection – components of a protection system, transducers and relays, relay types, protection of lines, transformers and generators.
  7. Power Systems Operation and Control – economic distribution of load between generators, effect of transmission-line loss, load distribution between the plants, power system control.
