Shipping is high volume industry: cargo is measured in thousands of tons, fleet capacity in millions of DWT or TEU, distances in hundreds of miles, freight rates in thousands of US dollars, ship purchases in millions, infrastructure investments in billions, economic activity in trillions!
At the same time though, due to these high volumes, details matter: charterers will haggle for a couple of dollars’ worth of freight rates and a difference of a couple dollars in the price of bunker fuel can make or break a company. In such a business environment it is essential that students develop the necessary skills to handle big amounts of quantitative data.
This is a 12-week course with a 3 hours per week lectures.
